REFEREE
Upcoming Ref Clinic
October 25th, 2025
Clinic registration is open and there are some changes we are all working through but hopefully this new system helps streamline everything.
New this year there is an online module that is a pre-requisite for all returning officials regardless of level. These will be linked to each clinic but they are also included below. These will need to be completed by the official by noon on the Friday (October 24th, 2025) before the clinic or their registration in the clinic will be cancelled, no exceptions. Reminders will be sent out to officials as we get closer to your clinic. This online module has the test in it, so the officials will actually be doing the testing prior to attending the clinic. Again this is for all returning officials regardless of level or age.

All new officials will need to take a different online module, this one is the intro to officiating module the link is included below, once they are done their in person then they will do the online test portion through Spordle, if they feel confident enough they are welcome to tackle the online test before hand but are not required to. The intro to officiating course is linked below.
For officials needing criminal records checks, this process takes about a week from start to finish. The Backcheck portion will return in 2-4 hours if all goes well but it takes 2-3 business days for those results to get to Hockey Alberta and get uploaded into the officials spordle account. If the official hasn't started this process at least 1 week prior to the clinic then they likely won't get it done in time. You need to use the link below from the Hockey Alberta website, no other forms will be accepted. Please pass this on to all officials as this is the biggest issue every year and I promise this will be the bulk of your calls.
